Q: What's the deal with
the "silver plated" and "gold
plated" rings?
A: I don't make them.
They're imported. The inside is base metal which can
be just about anything. The outside is silver
plated.
Q: What's the
difference between the imported ones on this page and
the "silvery" ones that you make?
A: Mine are pure copper
inside. The "Colored" rings are enameled and
then coated with a polyurethane and nylon mixture to
protect the surface. The "Silvery" ones are
enameled and silver plated and then coated to prevent
both tarnish and protect from wear. They come in
lots of brilliant colors including silver and gold.
Q: Why should I buy
"Gold Plated"?
A: They're shinier than
my "Silvery" rings. My Silvery rings are a
little bit duller owing to the plastic coating. The
Gold Plated come in more sizes than the ones I make. Also, your
shipment will go out sooner if you don't order any of
my home made rings because all I have to do is weigh
them and bag them. If I don't have to make anything,
the order ships usually within 3 business days.
So, tools, plated rings, rubber o-rings etc. get
shipped faster. When I make the copper rings, your
order will ship within 7 days. Making jump rings keeps
me pretty busy.
Q: Why should I buy
your "Silvery" rings instead?
A: I think they hold up
better. I've been told that the ends meet more closely
when closed. Occasionally I get a batch of the Silver Plated rings
that have tangled
themselves up owing to being shipped a long distance.
They kind of work themselves together as they
settle. Most of them don't tangle, but there is
always one batch that arrives in a tangle.
Q: Where are
"your" rings?
A: Look at the menu on
the left. I make the 18g Color, 18g Silvery, 20g
Color, 20g Silvery, Mixes and Copper. I also make the
Chain Maille Kits on the top section of that page; the
ones where you pick the colors. The imported
rings are only on the "Silver Plated" page
and "Gold Plated" page.

A note about the rings on this
page:
The silver and
gold rings that are on the same pages as my other colors are all made
the same way. They are referred to in the menu on the left as
"silvery". This means that all the rings on the silvery
pages are copper based with silver plating and colored enamel. They
are then coated with polyurethane and nylon mixture to prevent
tarnishing. The
rings that are on this gold plated page and on the silver plated page
are imported. I only make the copper based ones. The
imported silver plated rings hold up pretty well, the gold plated,
less so. I'm speaking from a jewelry making back ground.
I've made very little chain maille myself. I'm a beader at heart.
I have not tested the imported rings that you see on this page against
"my" rings for wearability. That's something I've been
meaning to do. I can tell
you this; I've never had a complaint on the quality of either style.
The imported rings shown on this page are shinier than
my home made ones. But I suspect that my rings will hold
up longer than the imported ones owing to the plastic coating.
